Meet Alex van V!
What could possibly change in a few months after working with a stylist?
Let's ask Alex van V and find out why she decided to work with me :)
Alex, please tell us, why did you want to work with a stylist? After packing away my studio, cafe and red Mini Cooper in China and moving across three continents I arrived in London with only two suitcases. I wanted to elevate my style, discover European aesthetic and find out what it means to live in one of the most artistically free cities in the world and to dress the part! In London there are amazing brands, independent designers, vintage, and custom made clothing everywhere we go… I wanted insider access to finding out where I can find the best pieces without having to spend all the time searching. With my nomadic lifestyle it is also more and more important to me to live within my means (basically within two suitcases) so I needed to know that each piece I purchased would serve the greater purpose of building a lasting, impactful well styled wardrobe. I wanted to work with a stylist to save time getting dressed in the morning, to save stress when I am out shopping, and to know my money is being invested in my wardrobe properly.
Hiring someone to streamline your wardrobe can be initially a financial investment. What made you justify working with a stylist? As a freelance graphic and interior designer it is important that I represent my brand and aesthetic in how I dress - my image is a large part of my brand and when I meet with a client or they see images of me on my social media this represents my work. Similar to the designs I create for my client’s I hope my clothing and accessories can show up as a cohesive piece of work. It is also important for me when I am working, styling, or setting something up I have professional comfortable outfits to wear.
How did you hear about Daisy and what made you choose her over another Stylist? I heard about Daisy through Pony Express speaker training - from my friend Annik. She has amazing stage presence, thinking back I know it was actually partly how she dressed because I was never thinking about what she was wearing but the impact she had on me as an audience member. I discovered later that a sign of a great outfit is that it doesn’t distract yet enhances the person - She is definitely evidence of that concept. I was considering working with other stylists but Daisy stood out to me because of her system - I was looking for someone who could take a look at my wardrobe as a whole and contribute to it. I had other stylists just take me shopping and I saw my money ended up being spent on so many items that didn't last for me. Right from the start, working with Daisy has truly set me up for a great journey of developing and building a classic and effortless look.
How has your wardrobe changed since you've worked with Daisy? I remember going on a 10 day trip to Malaysia this year. It felt incredibly empowering to know that I could pack 4-5 outfits, shoes, workout wear and even runners in a tiny carry on suitcase! That was when I knew my wardrobe had truly changed. EVERYTHING coordinates with everything! There are endless possibilities with how I can match items, incredible versatility - I can go from airplane to rooftop bar in a minute, and packing feels fun and effortless. I used to stress for hours and in the end I had a suitcase full of BLACK clothing. Now there are multiple shades of colours, tones, and textures which makes it very easy to find the outfit I am looking for. One of the other biggest changes is in how I enter a store - I used to experience a lot of anxiety, uncertainty and stress. I would get lost in trends, basics, and never know how to identify what would work for me. Daisy’s Colour Analysis has eliminated all of those stresses from my life. Now I can easily identify what I need, then I find my colour palette, if it fits and I like it I can them determine if I want to make that purchase.
Have you noticed an improvement in your everyday work or attitude when you wear something that truly reflects you? YES - the biggest feeling is not being afraid of the time between showering and getting out the door in the morning. I no longer struggle or have anxiety around what I am going to wear. I think about what am I doing today, how do I want to feel, and I can dress effortlessly. I love wearing something that feels a little extra special, knowing that I am unique and when I feel comfortable I instantly feel confident. Did you enjoy reading about this real life experience?
